Kenneth T. Fong, an entirely self-taught photographer who currently resides in Sausalito, California, has been making art photographs virtually his entire life. With practically no formal training, he has nevertheless learned through experimentation, repetition, and a natural eye for the abstract. His "Chairs of Sausalito" exhibit at the Sausalito Library marks his first public exposition, which runs from May 10 – June 28, 2024.
Ken’s work is concerned with multiple themes, involving the notions of reflection, refraction, transparency, and translucency, with suggestive undercurrents of separation, loneliness, rejection and solitude. However, his “Chairs of Sausalito” collection introduces elements of togetherness.
Many of the images (none of them digitally or otherwise manipulated) capture complicated layers of information, and the depth within the image is not clearly differentiated or identifiably real.
In addition to his "chairs", Ken has produced two other series: “absent self (ie)” and “frames”. Both involve the layered transparence and translucence. The first, selfies where the “self” is not discernable, but absent. The other, dealing with frames that enclose natural objects.
